Carb rebuild kits

    Any of you have any experience with a good rebuild kit or know where I can get a new spring for the accelerator for a 220 i6 in a '71? Currently, there's a bit of a delay in pushing down the pedal and then having the spring push down to give the engine more fuel.

    Sorry for the complete lack of technical terms. I never was good with technical vocabulary, and not having the car within 300 miles of me makes it even harder to remember. I hope you know what the hell I'm talking about...

    Edit: Oh, I did use a rebuild kit, but there were no new springs and several other small things that I can't remember had to be re-used. I really need a complete overhaul kit.

    Sorry but do you mean 250 :confused: .

    If you couldn`t use some of the parts of the rebuild kit then they prolly sold you the wrong one , all of the rebuild kits that I`ve seen didn`t have the acc. pump spring too I realy don`t know if you can get them new or not :confused: .

    Go to a parts house and ask for one mine was like $1 and rebuild kits do not come with them and there should be some parts that do not fit your carb because over time they change the carbs but keep the over all model the same hence there are some parts you cant use like there will be gaskets that dont fit on the carb or look differnt but the right one is there

    No kit will have everything new if you want everything new the only thing to do is buy a new carb. but i dout the spring is worn out im not saying it isnt possible but i dout it i had to replace mine cuz i bent mine by accident. lag could be caused by many things.. check your timing, wires, float level, air fuel mixture, those carbs are extremely simple but also extremely finicky so play with it before you replace any more parts.

    Also possibly check the accelerator pump bore to make sure it's completely clean and that there's nothing stuck to the walls that could impede the pump travel.

    I agree on double checking things out more before buying any parts. It has been awhile since I tore down one of the six cylinder carbs but doesn't the spring actually act as a return for the accel pump? I could be wrong just trying to picture it in my head. :rolleyes:

    Yea, I probably mean the 250. My bad.

    I'll check and make sure everything is clean, but I'm positive that it's the spring and/or that the bore is dirty. You can manually push the accelerator arm from the gas pedal, and there's a small delay before the spring can push the actual accelerator to meet it. I'll just check an auto parts store, I guess, and see about a new spring.

    There is also a little rubber thing that seals of the pump bore from the bowl when the pump is not being engaged check that if it breaks off or is cracked it can affect the pump as well, also make sure your spring is installed right if it isnt it can slip and not function properly.
