I've got a new B&M Quicksilver for the Maverick. It's the one designed to fit a 2nd gen F-body console, but that's actually perfect for me since I intend to further customize my custom console for a factory-ish appearance, and this should fit like a glove. The plate/boot shape is perfect for what I'm doing and the height looks like it will be spot on. Now, a couple of questions. Best I can tell, the only things that make this an "F-body shifter" are the console plate, an extra mounting bracket, a cable adapter and the omission of a neutral safety switch. (Although provisions to bolt on a B&M NSS are there.) I've compared the shifter itself to the universal Quicksilver and I can't find a difference at all. Can anybody confirm or refute my conclusion? I need to order the bracket/lever kit and a cable. Before I do, for those of you who've done this before, what length cable did you use? 4ft is the shortest I see on Summit/Jegs. I estimate that ought to be more than enough, even with very gradual bends over and around the transmission. Am I right? This is the C4 bracket/lever kit. Will this interfere with the kickdown rod? Anything else I need to know about? It seems very simple and straightforward... Also, once this is done I need to get that column shifter out of there. My plan is to just pull the collar off, grind down the shifter lever mount, fill, sand, and paint it. I'll also pull the linkage rods of course. Any pointers or advice about the column? I assume it's not a big cuss-fest to get that collar off? Thanks!
The hardest part is getting the hole through the floor in the right location, the instructions put the hole a little too far back(toward the shifter) and causes a hard bend in cable so check that out. 4' isnt really a lot of cable once you get it in and wrapped around top of transmission, they make different grades of cable get the best one. Cable can be worked around kickdown lever so no issues there
eyelet/threaded you need adjustment and I would go with 5' cable. The cable has to loop around on top of transmission and then back over tailshaft to get secured
I think it's mounted simular to the "Mega Shifter" which I have. Like it was mentioned, watch for the cable binding at the front where the shifter mounts to the hump. The trajectory (?) shoots the cable straight towards the front edge of the hole in the hump. I moved mine back a little and welded it in place. Also watch and keep the cable off of the exhaust.
Ok, it's installed! Looks great, works great! Thanks for the help. Pics later... Now about that steering column...
Now I see why the first thing everybody does when they get one of these is buy a T-handle. Cheesy plastic knob came apart in my hand tonight. Sure is fun bangin' the gears though!
Those "T" handles can also be a pain. They tend to loose their position at times. There is a lock nut but it still can go further around then you want. Careful with the threads too. Aluminum strips easy. It's not like real easy but it can happen..
I like the look and feel of the ball handle, but I can't have it coming off like that, especially since this shifter is one that routinely gets pulled upward. So I guess I'm shoppin' for a new handle/knob of some sort now. Hopefully the glue will hold while I make up my mind.
What in the hell is that roll pin made of?!? Couldn't pound it out. Attempted to drill it out. Failed. Whatever this roll pin is made of, they should make drill bits out of it. I may have accidentally buzzed the column shifter off with an angle grinder. Later when I have more time I'll do it right...
Looks nice. Looks like it sits forward and alot lower than mine. I have the Mega Shifter tho. Is your cable clearing the leading edge of the opening in the hump? That's where I had a problem.
