I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
There is an old trick that saved my but once,, there is a tool that plugs into an air hose and screws into your cylinder,, the tool is used to keep your valves closed to change valve stem seals with out removing the cylinder head,, had a Guy working with me for a very short time,, he drobbed the carb nut and stud down in a 250, I disconected the battery and pulled all the plugs out,, then started with Cylinder #3 and rotated the engine by large wratchet,, stuck the shop magnet down the carb hole and it did get the nut and stud soon as that valve opened.

Worked once for me,, Maybe it will bring you some good luck,, #3 or #4 Cylinder will prob be where ya find it.

If the nut was still in the intake log you could pull the front welch plug out of the end of the manifold and use a magnet from there but if it is down one of the intake runners I would use the air in the cylinder and the magnet - maybe hook the shop vac up to it at the same time.
