I have only had my car 1 year now as of last week. When I first got it I thought it would be fun to keep a log of all money spent on the car. Today I updated it with the latest purchases and I must say I am a bit stunned at where I am at. Especially when you look at the car, not much to look at. Although the pile of new parts in my basement is pretty impressive. There are still a few big purchases to make, but most of the big stuff is behind me....I hope!!

Any others out there doing the same thing? How do you feel about it? It doesn't really bother me, just wish the car was further along than it is. If it were already in paint it might not bother me as much.

I keep a log of all expenses. Although Im not doing a total restore I have done many upgrades and still have a lot more to do. I have all new ball joints, bushing for front suspension to go in. Im going to have them installed; so that's labor cost. I still have some minor body work and paint job hopefully nx year. I still have AC upgrade to do also nx season, for sure.
My car is driveable and drivetrain in excellent shape when I got it; so, I only had to have the rear-end rebuilt axle to axle.
Anyway, I can account for everything I have in the car to within $20.00 or so. That includes insurance, license, title fees, in other words everything. I keep it all on spreadsheet and every so often I print out and hang on my wall.

I don't bother me cuz at this point in my life it's mostly a one time thing and Im enjoying driving the car. "More than I thought I wud". If I cud'nt drive the car it wud bother me.

I kind of wish I had kept a log of all expenses.
GLad I didnt though. If my wife got a hold of it, its proof positive how much I spend on the car. I think its better she just doesnt know these things.(y)

I picked up my Maverick in October of 1989 and have kept a detailed labor log plus an expense log ever since day 1. The years I had to work outside on the car, also raising a son, there was a lot of labor time but not much in the cost department.

Now my garage is finally built, my son is grown and off on his own, and now the cost have really gone sky high. :hmmm:

Of course, now I'm getting a lot more done :)

I installed an old Quicken 98 program I had that came with an old computer and logged in my receipts and put them in categories (Suspension, Drivetrain and so on). I can pull up charts/graphs, itemized categories and detailed category reports showing dates, parts, vendors, how much spent...now I know what I didn't wanna know.

I do, but it's just a box. I toss all the paperwork in it.
If I have money to buy parts, I buy parts, and I always seem to have some money. :D
I work to buy car parts.
I like the quicken idea. I have a few copies, I should load one up.

I kept track of all expenses as well as picture documentation on my Sprint. I am doing the same on my Comet GT.

    Bob,
Your low budget exspense report for the first 10 or so years wouldn't be because it just sat in the yard would it?? :rofl2:
