I don't know but guess I should find out. The power valve is what came in the Holley rebuild kit. Thought I wrote it down but not finding it now. Vacuum at idle is 17-18 in HG, dropping to 15 when it flutters. (There's probably a better word.)

Its turning about 2800 RPM at 65 MPH. Is that what you mean by cruise? I can get the vacuum gauge inside the car and take it for a ride tomorrow. I'll see if I can find the power valve number without taking the carb apart.

all general rebuild kits i have bought all had 6.5 power valves. try to note where your vac is when you notice your flutter...

Its 17-18 on idle till it starts to miss and drops RPMs. Vacuum falls off to 15 till it smooths out again and back to 17-18.

I'll check them again tomorrow. I set the float levels then the dyno tuner said they were too low and adjusted them. Haven't looked at them again.

When I get the vacuum gauge in the car I'll also check the vacuum when Its missing under light throttle pressure.

Also want to check fuel pressure.

    Thanks.

Great suggestion to read the vacuum while driving. Now, what does it mean?

This morning, idle is better and vacuum stays in the 17-18 range. 18 when smooth; 17 when RPMs drop with flutter. Maybe the atmosphere is different.

Checked the float levels and didn't touch them. No fuel comes out when plugs are removed but both spill when I shake the car a little.

While driving with various throttle pressure:

. 15" HG and above, runs good.

. Below 15" it starts to fall off and between 12-10 its BAD

. Below 7" it starts to pick up and at 5" is pulling fine. Power valve kickin' in, right?

. Cruising straight and level at 60 MPH vacuum is 17"

Let me guess, bigger jets? Primary jets are currently 641s. I have a pair of 642s and another pair of 641s and some numbered drill bits. Or, I could order a kit of jets.

This stuff is FUN when you start making progress!!

    holly carb

I was looking at the holly website and saw that most of the carbs do not work with the aod. What has anybody figured out what to do?

To make a carb work with an AOD you need to put a TP lever and cable to the transmission.

i dont think its the jets. you should be able to get it to idle smooth if it was just the jets being too small. i feel that its an ignition miss. bad plug wires, or cap and rotor, or even a coil.

Could be. I'm in the process of getting a spare ignition to carry with me in case of failure. Maybe I'll get that set up and put the spare ignition on it and see what effect that has.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

throttle pressure i think. i usually hear them refered to as a tv lever as in throttle valve. either way the aod requires a cable to be hooked up to a lever next to the shifter that goes up to the throttle lever. locar makes a kit for this. it is very important to have that cable properly adjusted or you could fry the the aod in just a few miles.
