So finaly after almost 2 years of saving money im just about ready to start building my engine. I have the origanal 74 block out of the car, as well as an 86HO engine out of a lincoln mark 7 or something like that. The engine is going to be a 347 with all forged internals, flat top pistons with 2 valve relifes with the f303 roller cam. The 86 is already set up for roller cam but at the same time i can just buy a new roller kit from summit for $80. So that dont matter.... Just which block is better?

Sell your blocks, and buy a fully machined Summit block for under $700.

I run a 93 mustang 5.0 short block its never been apart and has 143.000 miles on it now, its been in the car since january of 02 and I've got over 400 quarter mile timeslips on it, it has an F cam in it and a pair of 96 explorer heads with staggered roller rockers, (1.6 intake, 1.7 exhaust), 6901 headers, rpm air gap and 650 holley dp, runs 12.0s on tires and 12.60s on street tires, I would take that 700 dollars and buy 2 stock short blocks.

The last 347 I built cost $800 for machining and balancing, and I did the connecting rod bolt notches in the cylinders myself. Why would you put a forged crank in a stock Ford small block? The block will crack before even a cast crank. Ask me how I know. I'm also not a fan of Ford's alphabet cams, they're 25 year old technology.

What heads are you gonna use? Flat top pistons in a 347 makes for some really high compression unless your heads have big chambers.

I agree with bmcdaniel 100% if this isn't going to be used to raced a mild 347
would make a nice street motor. Now lets be real, the power won't be there without the heads. It's got to flow to go!

At 17 it's going to take a lot of money to get to where you want to go, I've seen a lot of people lose intrest once they see how much work and money it takes to make an old car breath again.

    Good luck!
