I just thought someone might be intersested in taking on a similar project on a tight budget. Any opinions, suggestions or questions are welcome.
    Here's the deal.

    1971 Comet Stabber

    331 stroker
short block found on craigslist locally for $800
included: Scat crank, forged rods, SRP pistons, Ford Racing F303 cam w/roller lifters & Cloyes double roller timing set. All needed to be dissassembled, cleaned, plastiguaged & "miked".

    JE piston rings $90 (new)
Melling high volume oil pump $40 (new)
    GT40 heads $200 (craigslist)
Comp Cams red roller rockers $160 (craigslist $420 new from Summit)
    pushrods $33 (new)
beehive valve springs make unknown 120lb seat pressure $free from a friend.

Machine work $300 crank polished, heads vatted, three angle valve job, installed cam bearings, cylinder hone. (Charlie Peppers Race Engines)

    all bearings about $100

Total thus far $1723 for the long block.

I still need a distributor, headers & intake.

thats very similar to what im doing. I found a 93 mustang with a 347 stroker engine bought it all for 2k on craigslist. I pulled it and am going to put new rings and freshin it up and its going in my 73 maverick. the mustang had other goodies to go on the maverick too

BEE carefull with beehive springs especially used ones. They are great when you have $ to burn and weight is everything but when a standard style spring breaks many times the valve won't fall off into the cylender but when you loose a beehive spring they usually go at the top and they usually drop the valve. For a street/strip car that doesn't need to see anything over 6-7 K RPMs they are overkill.
