Its the exhaust crossover. It heats the intake under the carb so the fuel is more easily atomized.

if its a blind hole then i wouldnt worry about it. if it goes some where, the figure out where it goes.

its blind. no threads, and it dead ends about 3/4 inch deep. i think ill tap it and use for support arms for fuel or oil line.

Its nothing. There was a thread a while back about this and it turned out to be nothing because it is above the intake once it sit on the motor.

Pontiac did something like this in the early 70's. The explanation I heard was it helped to keep oil from cooking on the top of the exhaust cross over and forming deposits. I don't know if it's true but it made more sense than some of the other BS:bs: I heard.

FYI: Most intakes partially cover it when bolted down. So check before doing any unneeded work.

I just finished swapping out the intake on the roller 302 in my 89 Ranger, with E7 heads. Both intakes partially covered that hole (Ford Racing A321 and a 72 iron 302- 2 bbl intake.

Not BS, helps keep the cross over clear. go see how much crap is in the cross over of a set of heads that don't have that hole. I've seen them completely clogged before. That one is clean compared to others w/o the extra hole
