i just got my mav running and the rebuilt holley i purchased on ebay a few months back is leaking fuel somewhere around the flaot bowls front and back and doesnt seem to be taking in any fuel can anyone help. the front and rear bowls have that passage tube that connects the 2 together and it leaks out and run all up and down that
I'm goign to run outside and toss the hood up on mine, i run a holley 600cfm model 1850... if that's what you run i think i know what you are talking about. May have to pull the carb back off, pull that fuel rail that runs from primary to secondary bowl, and re-seat them with new o-rings... if i remember right that's how it goes together. Going to run out and look to make sure.
If the balance tube is leaking, then the o rings on it are bad or gone. You will have to take one of the fuel bowls off to replace them. Chances are, when you take the bowl off, you damage the bowl gasket, so you might as well get a Holley kit and rebuild it.....
i pulled the carb off and i did notice the bowels have some gas in them but when u hit the throttle it wont even squirt any fuel in ,A lesson well learned i suppose ,never buy a used holley online thats been rebuilt and exspect it too be in good shape ,it actually looked like it had been redone it is a zinc color carb with some nice lookin chrom fuel bowls witht the clear fuel sites
Did you actually look down the throttle while the car is off to see the squirters not squirting? Maybe they had the gasketts on wrong?
That can happen if the bowl gasket or metering block gasket is wrong or installed backwards. Or if the pump lever was adjusted too tight and damaged the pump diaphram. Or if the check valve/ball isn't working . Edit: I always smear a light coating of grease on the transfer tube o-rings when installing to keep from tearing them. Also they swell up when exposed to gas and are harder to install. Dry ones install easier.
I always slide the o rings on the tube, then dip them in brake fluid just before putting it in place and bolting the opposite bowl on. Never had one leak this way. Never try to install the bowls with the o rings dry. They'll leak everytime.
I hate those type of carbs... I prefer dual feed on any Holley I run. Those o-rings seem to always be a problem. I hardly ever tear up any gaskets either when tearing a carb apart... I'm just lucky I guess
Had the same problem with my Holley 600. No leaks but couldn't figure out why the bowls we're filling. After taking it apart/putting it together a few times, I gave up and bought a Edelbrock 600 cfm. No problems now.
