I'm thinking of buying this (Click here). Any major cons? I'm tired of the week as hell springs in a factory Trac-Loc. When I slam the pedal to the floor i better get totally sideways.:)

Mine has a locker and it works great. Bit noisy in parking lots and right turns but to be expected. No issues city driving at all. I wouldnt replace it with a clutch type lets put it that way. My last car was a factory clutch type and this locker is no worse in wet weather. I thought the locker might be an issue with turns but it rolls around corners fine and doesnt lock on turns unless you get onto it pretty good. I think it actually works better on turns than my clutch type did with shimmed springs.

Thats good to hear. I pulled my factory unit apart after letting my Neises boyfriend take it one run down the track and he was half out of the grove and did a 1 legger for about 60'. It took like the first coils off of the load springs. so I cleaned up the tops of the springs and put them back in with 2 nuts underneath to shim them up. I'm going to replace this with a locker because of how crappy the design of this OEM unit is.

i ran a detroit in mine for a while. they suck with a stick shift. they are alot of fun with an automatic.
sounds like your missing a part in your tracloc. there should be a metal pice that goes over the springs that will keep them from beeing rubbed on by the side gear. a tracloc can be shimmed really tight and will work really well when set up correctly.

That's what I thought, but I couldn't find a diagram with any info on the 8" to verify it. If anybody has the parts I'm missing I'll buy them to hold me off.

the gap between the teeth in a detroit locker make for some big baning and clunking when you lift off the gas and or apply the gas. now a power trax or lock rite dont have as much of a gap between there teeth and dont behave the same way.

I know this is a 9" but if memory serves Bryant is talking about number 9 in the diagram.

Iv seen that image but that's for a 9" and the clutches are different. So I wasent sure if any of the parts are the same.

ITs similar design though. Think your missing number 9 in the pic. thats how your springs got damaged.

I've got a Detroit locker in my 9", and it looks nothing like what's in the ad you show. Looks more like the Yukon versions at the bottom of the page...
