Hello Everyone, I have a 1974 Comet GT with 302. I am the original owner. Bought this car while stationed in San Antonio, TX (Army). After living in San Antonio for 1.5 years I drove the car to Georgia (my home state) and then to Anchorage, Alaska via way of the dirt road nicknamed the ALCAN. Thirteen hundred miles of dirt roads. Spent 3 years in Alaska and drove back down the ALCAN to Georgia and that where I have been ever since. This car means a lot to the family and plan to hand it down to one of my daughters or grandson. My car came with the V8 two barrel with three speed, mag slotted wheels. The GT has many modes since to include, Ford 4 spd toploader, Hurst Compitition shifter, duel exhaust, Mallory Unilite Electronic Ignition, ProComp Coil, Elderbrock four barrel Intake with Elderbrock Carb (600cfcm). Replaced heads with harden seats from donor car (Marque). The front end was rebuilt with 69 Mustand springs for big block cutting one loop out to level it out. The car has been in storage for the last few years and just recently took it to another city for restoration. But, the paint could still be shined like it was new. Man I loved that old paint. But anyway, my current problems are, finding a new gas tank with sensor, new rear spring (already have a new set of bushing for the leafs) and shackles. I have replaced many items in the past just for maintaining the vehicle such as battery tray, glove box, windshilds with new seals, etc. Final note: Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to learn from you guys and hopefully in the future just maybe I can help others. Terry
Hi Terry......:Handshake what part of Ga? we are having a little get-to-gether next month....2nd Annual Dixie Maverick Stampede you should join us... Frank
Restoring Merc Currently the 74 Merc is and has been for the last year at a body shop in GA. The owner of the shop said it will take 6 months but he has exceeded this easily. I am currently researching the advantages of another top loader versus the T5. I will also be rebuilding the 302 and want to have a solid engine with approximately 270 to 280 HP. Mainly looking for the right mix for a solid performer and longevity. I have been viewing all the other rides to gather more knowledge. The 74 Maverick page has tons of information and do appreciate the owner letting us in on his project. I am located in Warner Robins, GA and would love to share information with others. I have bought a donor car and it's currently sitting at the garage where my car is in restoration. Would like to discuss this project (or their project) with others from GA or elsewhere. Thanks Oh and I would like to say sorry about my absence from this forum. I had to place my priorities elsewhere for a time and now can get back to my favorite pastime, working on the Merc. Thanks for understanding.
Thanks Rayzorsharp for your reply. I can't wait to get fully involve with this car and working with others who share this interest in Mavs and Comets. Also, I notice someone is setting up some club here in GA and have meets. I would really like to attend and be active with the GA folks. I'm trying to download some current photos but having problem finding out how. But I will learn and will show the progress soon.
