iv been on here for awhile and here and there i see people ask about the disc brake swaps and what is interchangeable. im doing a 75 maverick disc brake swap onto a 71 maverick what im curious about is that to make it power disc brakes manual discs i know im going to need a brake booster but what would fit? its a tight space iv seen the tech brake articles on here but just wanted to get some more info on it in addition if i went manual discs do i still need a prop valve? either way if i go power or manual? any info would be great

Yes you still need a prop valve. Manual is enough for these light cars. If you ever plan to swap in a manual transmission you can forget about power brakes :D

Its not that simple I wish it was. You need the pedal assembly and master brake booster from a 75+ donor car. Then you need to cut the firewall to make the linkage fix through correctly. Its not really hard but will take time to setup right. For front disc brakes you can by the adapter for 250$ and run 2005 mustang gt 12.5 rotors and dual cals. Course you need to have 17" wheels to run the 12.5. Grab the explorer disc brakes for the rear and your set.

I would go the manual disc set up. My car stops great without power assist. USe your disc components but go with a manual disc brake master set up.

Exactly what I'm working on now.

I have manual disc's with spindles off a 75, on my 73, they work fine. I even used the stock drum/drum master for a year, with the drum prop valve, for a year or so, with no issues.

thanks everyone for the great info im definitely going to to the manual brake instead of power assist but can i really run the drum prop valve? this was a 4 lugger with drums or do i need to use the 75 maverick prop valve i have one laying around or just use the drum prop valve?

Since you already have the '75 prop valve, I would install it!

i swaped disks on my 73, and the proportioning valve from the old drums worked fine, all four tires lock up at the same time. i was even able to use the same lines, just needed a new master cylinder.

I think if you have drum brakes you will find that your valve is a distribution block with a sensor that will light a light on you dash if you lose front or rear brakes. You will only have a prop valve if you already have disc's. I put on disc's and didn't use the block but put a prop valve in my rear line. When you change you MC there are 2 differents between a power MC and a manual MC. One is fitting sizes and the other is a retainer for you push rod. Power MC does not have a retainer so you might have to make your own pedal stop. I used a piece of angle straped to the sterring column.
