    Jealous :(

Im having doubts with my maverick. Wish I got one with a 302 or 351w in it.

Rear end, drive line, tranny, motor, motor mounts, and cross member is going to cost me a **** ton :(

I can barely peel out even on wet/icy ground. --- Its nice car, but feels like driving a soccer moms mini van with a gimped leg.

I have the EXACT same problems. 200 Straight Six 3spd a/t

To start place it in Drive, then once started place in Neutral! Make sure ER brake is on.

Its a neutral safety switch that is located on the column of the steering wheel.

As for why it slips into reverse is because the rod is bent or the tranny needs a slight adjustment.

Its a floor shift car there should be a switch inside that cover somewhere thats probably your problem with the not starting in park ordeal.

The carb does not need to be replaced more than likely a rebuild kit will fix your problem.

Good time to learn to rebuild a carb :)

And again great looking car, perfect first car project :)

If it's a factory installed floor shift, the neutral safety switch is on the side of the transmission. Sounds like the linkage needs some adjustment.
What is that on top of the hood scoop?
Watch out for that fuel filter, if it's glass, they can leak. Which is not a good thing.

hopefully your parking pawl is not in need of replacement. Good thing is that you can keep the tranny in the car to fix it....Bad thing...messy! Also, check out the cowel buddy. These things rot out but looks like the car was taken care of from here! What type of carb do you have? I just bought my 73 Mav in June and am having exhaust put on next week.:bananaman Nothing fancy...turbos....will sound better than the 37 yr old junk on it now. Noticed anothr hole in the driver muffler today. This is that only place you will need to go to get ideas or any info on what you want to do with your car! And well done!:thumbs2:

I would definitely check the linkage for adjustment or bent arms. The neutral switch should be at the base of the steering column if its a column shift but if it's not going into park because of an adjustment, the switch will not see park either and will not close the circuit for the start wire. Hopefully you get lucky and the parking pawl is ok. There's a couple of transmission experts on here so info shouldn't be hard to come by.
