I just got back from the shop and my Maverick is now road ready. She's finally driving straight and true with no squishy brake pedal. $270 for an alignment and brake flush and bleed though. A bit pricier than I anticipated- $60 Alignment $60 Brake job $150 Speeding ticket on the way there. Woops. Oh well, live and learn.......where the cops park.
Hmmm. I have never had my maverick allingned. And it drives straight and true. It has had the complete steering yanked out and replaced with a manual setup, as close as I could get it by eye. Springs have been tossed and replaced with HUGE springs, which I had to cut down to get a lowered front. And surprisingly, doesn't pull one way or the other. I know the camber has to be off, but I have never had it on the rack to find out how much. And, since I just put new front tires on it, I should probably take it in for a look. Minus the speeding ticket, mind you!
Yeah, I tore apart my entire suspension and replaced everything front and rear, along with the brakes, so it was very much needed.
Ouch! The bad thing about the ticket isn't the money, it's the points that go on your license for three years or so, plus the possible insurance premium increase! Ouch again!
Tickets are there to teach you that you can just as easily go the limit as you can exceed it. I almost never exceed the limit - hey, I could lie and say "never" but I am as human as anyone. I get more thrill out of not slowing down for turns than I do going an extra 20 mph on the interstate. Taking a corner in a 35 zone that is marked with a suggested speed of 20 at 35 is a lot better than doing 75 in a 60. My wife, bringing me home from surgery, was cut off on the freeway and changed lanes while accelerating and went way out of her "comfort zone" last Wednesday. After settling down in the new lane she saw that she was still going 70 and slowed back down to the limit. It startled her a bit but I think she actually enjoyed it.
Officer, I was devoting all my attention to controlling the car. I really didn't have a chance to look at the speedometer...... (or "how to make a $60 ticket into a $120 ticket)
In this case the speedometer wasn't hooked up anyways. Didn't let on to that fact though. I was doing 47 leaving a 30, going into a 55. I punched it a little early coming around the corner to the 55 zone. Dumb mistake, saw it coming as soon as I caught the cop in my peripheral vision sitting behind a fence. Plus my car just screams "Pull me Over!!". Flat black, hood scoop, low, loud exhaust, no passenger seat. Last ticket I had didn't do anything to my insurance, so we'll see how this one goes.
