Were all manual trans '69.5 Mavericks 3 on the tree? Did they ever make them floor shift? and if so, anyone have one of those steering columns you want to sell? Or am I going to have to hack the lever off the auto trans column I have, fill the hole to make my own?
Not sure if they all do but I have the piece that normally has the gear indicator part on it that I could part with.
A collar from a later car can replace that. I sold one here awhile back. No need to replace entire column.
Since we're on the subject... How would you go about switching from column to floor shift? Is it simple as getting a floor shift kit? I have a 70 maverick, but noticed I have a 69.5 C4 3 speed auto transmission. (must have been early in 70 when my car was built since they used 69.5 tranny lol)
69.5's have a different column then the later cars. It may fit, but it won't look right. What makes your C4 a '69.5 C4? All auto trans Mavericks, regardless of year came with a C4.
I switch over from an automatic to a 4 speed on my 69.5. I made 2 little plates to cover up the PRNDL indicator and the automatic shift lever hole and epoxied them all in place. My key switch is already under the dash so I didn't have to deal with plating a key switch hole also. Were there automatic floor shifters used in 69.5? If so, I always thought that one of those columns with no indicator, no shifter and no ignition switch might be one of the rarest finds in the Maverick world.
You should be able to use pieces from a '68 or '69 Galaxie, Fairlane/Torino, Mustang, or Falcon (or their Mercury counterparts) with a floor shift.
Interesting, I'll have to look into that. Was kind of wondering about it, since the turn signal switch has a '69 Mustang part number on it.
