In my opinion steering, suspension, and brakes is not one place you really want to set a budget. These are the main components that make the car enjoyable to drive in my opinion. And with the cars age I always try and replace everything and upgrade anywhere possible.

In my opinion your budget is too low, and only sutible for either the front rebuild or the rear. Not both.

On shocks selection going to need more info on what your plans are for the car.

There should be some decent how to's on brake swaps in either the tech section or the tech articles section. Nothing a quick search cannot outline a parts list for you.

Here's my 2 cents, go to the main page of THIS forum and open the tech forums (tech and tech articles). You will find plenty of information on disc brake swaps. I also think you will need to re-think your budget. 50-60 dollars will only get you junk shocks at best. As was stated in an earlier post, these parts are a key component to your safety and everyone around you. Also stated in an earlier post, you but the cheap parts you'll replace them in short order making you spend more in the long run than it would have been if you bought the good stuff in the first place.

Thank you very much!! Very helpful. I will be ordering the front end kit towards the end of this coming week. Also will be ordering the springs you mentioned earlier.

I will be doing all the work myself as I don't have the funds to give this to a shop and charge me 75$ an hour to do. Is there anything I should know before getting my self up **** creek without a paddle? After I am done replacing everything I have a friend who owns a repair shop and will have him do the realignment -- is there anything else I should look out for?

A spring compressor is a huge bonus and will keep the spring from blowing out as you take it all apart. A pickle fork would also be a big help in separating the ball joint and tie rod ends, just don't get them at Harbor Freight, I think theirs are made out of butter!

Spring compressor is a must, and Autozone will rent you theirs for free. I easily dismantled mine without forks, but I guess I just got lucky. The install is pretty straightforward, especially if you leave one side assembled as a reference.

Haha, good to know. I normally wouldnt buy anything from Harbor Freight, I've seen some scary stuff come out there. Only thing I think ive ever bought there was a shop light, and light bulbs -- Had good luck with that so far, but wont trust ANY tool there.
Sweet, my best friends brother works at Autozone -- Ill have to give him a call when I get closer to doing this.

Also here is a side view of the car -- I want to get the front lower than the rear for that "mean" look :)

PST kit is the one I used ... polygraphite bushings. They are firmer and yet still quiet. Be sure to use a regular rubber strut rod bushing set, though, instead of the poly ones in the kit. Well documented that they are too harsh and will break strut rods ... I snapped one ... lucky it didn't happen at speed.

If using an Explorer rear axle ... you will need to weld on new leaf spring mounts. The Ex comes with springs that are too far inboard. Overall length may be too wide also. May be solved by running modern wheels that tuck the tires inboard. My 1998 Sport has a 3:73 gear, posi, and disc brakes from the factory. (y).

If you want I have a complete front end including cut coils, fatman drop spindles and disc brakes we are taking off our project car to start the chassis. The componets are new but have been assembled on the car and have been sitting for a couple of years. PM me and I can give you more information.

    *bump*

I am trying to track down some coil springs...

Would like V8 (currently a v6 but prepping self for the v8 swap in near future) Coil springs, with a 1 to a 2 inch drop. Also will be picking up new spring perches too (will be going with P-S-T for $30 (if you know of somewhere to beat those prices please speak up!!!)) Note, these will be front springs.

    Summit has a par for $117 (part number GKS-S-26 // GKS-S-26F) and they are a 1'' drop

Would like to try to shop around more before I jump on these. Would like BETTER, CHEAPER, QUALITY springs than Summit, BUT Summit is within price range, but always wanna ask before I buy.

Also will be getting Sensa-Trak Shocks (Part Numbers 32013/33059)
Price: Unknown need to contact Sears Auto Center Monday (should be around 30$ a corner)

    Picked up the following today

(x2) High Quality Inner & Outer wheel bearings / outer casing
    Tub`Oh`Grease (3$)
Pickle fork for tie rod, and ball joint (9$ ea)
Total = 58$ (Love my works discount!!!)

You may want to hang onto those 6cly springs for your V8 conversion. They might fit the bill perfectly for you 1 inch drop.
