The carb I have is a holley 650 dp HP and I was running 72 primary jets which was just too rich, engine would bog down. So I switched back to the 69's which I believe the carb was shipped with. It's more responsive but boy the exhaust smell is very strong. Does that mean anything?

where does you exhaust exit at? Do you have headers? I would check to see if you have an exhaust leak around the connectors. I don't think your carb is the issue.

Is it while you are driving or at idle? If it is at idle you need to adjust the idle screws. I had a problem with a "rich" exhaust smell when I had a big cam and low compression. the big cam meant I had to be a little rich at idle and the lower comp made it hard to get a complete burn.

I notice it more when I'm idling. I'm sure I have small exhaust leaks here in there but I never smelled it until I went down on the jets. So is this smell a "lean" smell or "rich" smell?

PS: I'll cut back on the bean burritos and see if that makes a difference! :)

I thought you had a wideband in your car?

Whats your AFR at idle? and is the exhaust leak anywhere near the o2 sensor?

I haven't had a chance to hook up the O2 sesor, I had taken it out when I redid the exhaust so I'll hook that up hopefully tomorrow and I'll report back.

Just make sure you do not get false readings by having an exhaust leak prior to the sensor or shortly after the sensor.
