heyeveryone. ok i posted an ad a few weeks ago about a strong fuel oder inside my maverick when im driving. most everybody told me to put a charcoal canister in the car. i did and its still smelling bad. their is no fuel odor when the car is off just parked. but when i turn the car on in a matter of minutes the inside smells alot like fuel. i checked the lines and see no leaks. carb was rebuilt bout 4 monts ago. im going crazy trying to figure out whats wrong with the car... any other suggestions???

check the fill kneck in the trunk to see if it has rusted through. tha can cause the fuel smell to be really bad in a car.

If it's leaking only when running, I would suspect it would be past the fuel pump and vaporizing quickly since you don't see a leak. I would pull the air cleaner and look really good at the carb and fuel line connections. Also look at the weep hole in the fuel pump itself(if the diaphragm ruptures, it will seep fuel when running).

heres something that may help you isolate were the smell is coming from .. drive down the road with windows up and air fan , set at med. heat and medium or high fan. now if you do this for a couple of minutes, let the cabin preasure build up ..so that in theory if it is raw fuel from the tail pipes or leaky exhaust from the firewall back you wont smell anything, now if you do smell something still , its probably coming from the firewall forward and sucking in through the heater fan inlet at the cowl..has worked for me..good luck.

Takes very little fuel to make a big smell in the car. Look carefully for any stains on fuel components under the hood. It may be evaporating as fast as it leaks which will leave a stain.
