Hi my name is Mike and I have a 1961 Comet 2 door hardtop that I will be resuming restoration on some time this year, it hasn't really been touched since about 1998 other than to move it around the shed.
My Grandpa gave me this car when I was 13 years old for a project for us to work on together. My Great grandpa actually bought this car off the lot in late 1960 ( I still have the little plastic model of the car that the dealer gave you), sold it to my Grandpa, then he kind of shuffled it around for who knows how long, so it only has 56k original miles on it. :D
We fixed all the rust on the car, new fuel lines, brakes, cleaned out the gas tank, new headliner (was full of mouse nests) and a handful of other things. I have since spent quite some time in the 4 cyl/turbo world, but got rid of my project car. Sooo, I will be focusing a little more on my 61 Comet this summer (or when ever it warms up in MN haha)

As far as I know, the car has a 200ci straight 6 in it. (again, haven't even looked under the hood since about '98 haha) I know they only came with 144's and 171's, but this what I was told. My grandpa claims he knows of no engine swap, but he did sell it and buy it back 5 years later once in the 80s. What I am thinking is that it more than likely has the stock motor, but someone had an extra 200ci ford/mercury air cleaner laying around and tossed it on. When the car gets pulled out of storage is when I will find out. It does have the 3 speed column shifter if that makes any difference.

Anywho, I'm new here, would love to know more about these things, and can't wait to get mine running again! I don't have any pictures of it other than a few 15 year old polaroids, I'll see if I can scan them and post them up some day here.

Edit: And I see there isn't much here for the 61's, is there any other sites that may lead me to information on my car? cometclub.com looks like it isn't around anymore?

:Welcome: to the forum from Northeast Pennsylvania

I really like the older Comet/Falcon chassis cars :)

There is a sub forum here for the older Comets but this forum mainly focuses on the 1970 to 77 Maverick and the 1971 to 77 Comet which shared the same chassis. That would be why you don't find a lot here on your year car. :yup:
