Hey all, how did you guys get the two nuts off that hold the strut rod to the lower control arm? I've wrenched as hard as I can and can't get those suckers off! Should I just split them? Used about a bottle of PB over 3 days! As always, I appreciate any and all advice!

Mine zipped right off with the impact. You can try a bit of heat but dont get them cherry red unless your replacing them. You dont want to change the temper of the bolt.

Remember only the nuts will turn. The bolts themselves have splines on them that hold them in place in the strut rod. I always use my handy 3/8 IR 2112 impact for things like that.

:rofl2: I remember making this mistake. How was I supposed to know there were splines on there? I don't remember how many tools I broke in the process, but Dad was not happy.

Their lock nuts also so they will fight you all the way down. I just use a large breaker bar to free them and then racheted em off. I got a new nut kit from AMK ...

LMAO I'm still working on them, had to work some overtime so I haven't been able to get at 'em during daylight hours(I've done enough night repairs already lol) Thanks for the tips, didn't realize they were lock nuts. Also didn't realize the bolts were splined.. Like an idiot I almost pushed the dang car off the jack stands while I was trying to loosen 'em... Looks like an impact will be the way to go!

remember .. if it starts getting a little overwelming ..put down your tools..sit back..and unleash a tyraid of profanities unlike anything previosly heard on this planet. and then calmly go back to what you were doing..this "alway's" works for me.. lol..

Your bits have Points? You are a lucky man. I envy you.
I don't, all of mine, even those high dollar ones like to Burn their way through. And pressure LOTS OF PRESSURE otherwise you wait 3 maybe 2 hours to see the otherside of a 24ga. 1/4 in hole. And lets not forget the cutting oil! You know that stuff that blinds you with smoke so you can't even see where the the material your drilling used to be before it got flung behind the cabinet on the other end of the shop.Woe is me.
