Ever since the carb rebuild, new gas tank, fuel filter, etc, the Mav has run great. She is a little hesitant on a cold start, but once she has been start the first time in the morning, she purrs. Now the issue, she sat for about 3 weeks after my accident. Afterwards, she was not going to start. I could tell she wasn't getting gas. I ended up having to put some fuel down the carb to get her started. Once she started, she started up immediately on every attempt afterwards. We usually start her up at least once a week and have no real issues - just have to pump the pedal a few times on the first start. I looked for a fuel leak and checked all the lines - no problems. The fuel pump is working fine. I know it is probably something simple, but it is just not coming to me. Your thoughts?
How would you check this. That is a possibility. There is a slight fuel smell that I haven't traced. A leak in the power valve might explain that too.
After sitting for 3-4 weeks the carb can dry out (gasoline evaporates). What I do is crank the engine for 10 seconds, press the pedal to the floor and release it then press 1/2 down and start it. If it doesn't start right up repeat the process again.
Yeah, this is what I tried until the battery was expended. That is when I poured gas down the carb. Less than a month old. I replaced the gas tank so all the gas is new. Haven't had a chance to check the carb power valve and will recheck the lines. Hope to do this Friday before we head to vacation.
I have a holley, and when the accelerator pump started leaking a little, mine would do the same thing, replaced, and fine now. Dunno if that helps.
