I'm having a tough time getting the brake drum off the passenger side rear of the Maverick. The driver side wasn't all that hard to remove, but I did have to back the self adjuster wheel off and beat on it some. My question is, do the adjusters turn in the same direction on both sides? What I mean is do I roll the adjuster wheel downward on both sides, or does it roll down on one side and up on the other?:hmmm:
    thanks.

I never can remember, I know one side is r hand thread, and the other side is left hand, I just turn them one way first, if the drum gets loose, ok if not go the other way.

When you put your adjusting wrench in the hole you pull the wrench down to tighten the adjuster up. Therefore you would have to push it up to loosen it.

Sometimes the parking brake hangs a little too. Grab the handle and yank it hard, then push it all the way back in. Repeat this cycle a few times and then try pulling the drum again.

Also sometimes the drum siezes to the axle, if this is the case just smack the drum between each of the lug studs with a hammer and it should knock it loose.

    Finally!

It took a while but I finally got that darn drum to break loose. Now that I've got the brakes apart I've got to decide what to do with them. The drums are pretty much shot. I don't think there's enough metal left to turn (1 of them maybe ok).
I checked on drum prices $100_+ each. By the time I buy all the parts I'll be in for around $300. I might as well go with a disk brake kit. I found one from Fab quest for $385.

Do you guys know of a cheaper alternative to buying a new kit? Will the rear brakes off of a later model ford fit an 8 inch rear?
My budget build is waaaaay over budget!

    76 Drums?

None of the drums I find on ebay shows that they will fit a 76 Maverick, except the $106 centric brand. I measured the drums that came off the car and they have an outside diameter of 11 5/8", and an inside diameter of 10" even. The brake shoes are 1 3/4" wide, and the drums are not finned. All of the cheaper drums seem to only fit 73 and older Mavericks. Does anyone know of a less expensive drum that will fit my 76? I would really appreciate a little help here. My "budget build" is waaay over budget.
    Thanks
