    Hi.
    I've got a '71 Maverick with a 6cyl.
I want to get a 289 or 302. Which Tranny should I get, if I have to upgrade or switch.
    Thanks!

If you already have a manual transmission then you can use it. You can use your automatic transmission IF you drive like a grandpa. If you're going to act like Steve McQueen behind the wheel you will want a v8 automatic transmission.

No racing. Highway speed and just country driving, Saturday nights going out for Burgers. Easy stuff. It'll end up just being a good lookin' car when I'm done.
Can the stock Tranny stand up to that? Or, is it just better to get a V8 Tranny.

    the C4 is bullet proof.

If the six you have is a 250 then use the same transmission/bellhousing with the V8 flexplate. Otherwise I would recommend you get a C4 to match your V8.
