I just purchased this car. what is the best stereo I can get that will fit in the factory hole. This car has no aftermarket upgrades and I do NOT want to alter it if I can avoid it. Thanks.
Custom Auto Sound might be your best bet to find a direct fit. The radio bezel is held in place with 4 screws, you could pick up a spare to modify for a current din style stereo and still have your stock one on hand.
I looked into this for months till I decided to cut up an extra radio bracket. I wanted to stay with a 2 knob style radio but the choices are few. You can go to a new system with the original type look but they are big money for what you get. Some cheap knob style out there but they all look like off shore junk that I found. Spent lots of time hunting for a good 80's style deck but they are too much money now. They call them vintage and want way too much for a deck that might work. Anyhow I ended up with this and it actually doesnt look too bad. I didnt want something with lots of goofy dancing lights. Just a simple deck. This turned out good since the lighting is Blue so it fits the rest of the car. I had this one but it didnt work for long. ALso the sound was awful compared to the new deck. At first I didnt have a radio in the car at all. Its nice to have on the longer trips though. Glad I installed it.
Here is what I'm ordering at the end of this month. It should bolt right in with no mods. www.retrosoundusa.com/
how much is it? prices wont come up on my computer. An least it'll take satelite radio cuz i got the xm series or however its spelled that i wanna install in another vehicle so it doesnt go to waste anymore
if you want even a decent sound you'll almost have to "alter" something. there is only a speaker grille/hole right above the old AM radio for a speaker. Unless someone else has changed this. The rear deck does have provisions to knock/cut out speaker holes for 6x9s. I modified my bezel to install a single DIN cd/mp3 player into my original just like Darren did.
so if the car came stock with the speakers in the rear deck, would it have had the front speaker also? cuz i dont think mine has it but i havent been able to look real hard for it, cuz weather doesnt permit it lately
had a feeling price would be up there, but still awesome. Thanks man! Cuz i was wantin to keep it somewhat original looking yet modern if that makes any sence at all. Ive been up WAY to long lol
stereo help i used a DUAL system, it's got all the latest and greatest inputs on it and puts out about 250w which works fine for me, i only had to alter the mount slightly to make it fit and i think it cost me about 150 bucks for the hole thing new wire and 2 speakers up frunt and the 2 300w 6x9's in the back. DUAL is sold at autozone now i think, but most stereo's are about the same size and should fit without cutting metal if thats what your consern is, hope i was helpfull, good luck
when i had my jeep i had sony xplode 6x9s in the back and 4.25's in a sound bar overhead. im going to stick with that same system in my maverick. xplode 6x9s in the back and whatever size fits in the door panels, which i need to cut out one side (one door has a cut out the other doesnt) i picked them up at wall mart and theyre pretty cheap the head unit i had had every hook up known to man on it usb, ipod, cd, and the headphone jack input. i found that usb gave me the best sound and i have a 320gig external harddrive so i just took it everywhere
