I have a 65 comet that I'm putting a 5.0HO in and I'm wondering if I can use full length mustang headers or if there's clearance issues that anyone has run into. Thanks for your oppinions.

Fox body mustang headers are a no go, some classic mustang hearders fit. But some don't either.

I have no idea about the 70s ones, this is my first muscle car so I have nothing to compare it to. The headers for comets in the catalogs start at 66 so I wasn't sure.

My friend has a 65 calliente (he is turning it into a cyclone clone...)and the ones he had the best luck is dougs ceramic, they are stupid expensive, but they fit like they were made for it...Oh wait they were made for the Falcon/Comets of those years.
Oh as a note they have a narrower transmission tunnel like the first mavericks but It appears to be a bigger engine bay. But the car is a little bigger then ours too.

He does have a ford toploader in it now too but it had a C4 with those headers too, so transmission clearence shouldnt be too much of an issue if you go that way

(dont cry when you see the price)

Oooh go to summit they are allot cheaper there

Your engine bay has different dimensions (smaller) than a 66-up car. Look for headers that fit the early Falcons (62-65) The 289 Hi-po manifolds are an option that fits. They breathe as good as if not better than the HO's tubular manifolds. Might try the Tri-Y headers for the 65-66 Stangs too(not sure these fit your car though). Hedman #88400's(shorty's) also fit these cars.

Mustang HiPo manifolds will hit the steering box. Mustang Tri-Y's don't fit either. Just about all Mustang headers will have fitment problems with either tube 3 or 4 around the firewall. Hooker 6103 will fit but you will need to dent the tubes here and there.

Thanks everyone for you fast responses! I think I'm going to go with the hookers and just dent them a bit, the dougs sound awesome but I don't have the $500 to $600 to spend on them right now. And thanks a lot Craig for the links to those forums! More resources and more information is just going to help my project move a lot smoother!

Seems like someone was selling repro Hi-po manifolds that were specific for the Falcon/Comet, maybe Dearborn Classics ?
