i ended up buying the calipers at Autozone, Napa had a 20 dollar core charge per side and they didnt have any in stock, i wasnt going to buy anything i couldnt see first. The calipers that i bought didnt quite fit inside of the bracket there is a small piece of metal that sticks up off the caliper, so im just going to cut a notch in the bracket to accommodate it. Take the bracket in with you when youre buying the calipers and also make sure you buy the ones that include bolts other wise its like 9$ extra per side When i get all the parts and get at least one side on the maverick i will do a price break down with updates prices.
I don't understand the need to reinvent the wheel here. Seems to me that there were already a couple different ways to upgrade the Maverick front brakes to disc without changing the spindles. One that comes to mind right off the top of my head would be to use 75-77 Maverick disc brake parts.
i probably should have gone that route to begin with but i was in such a hurry and found that article and went "wooohoo im gonna do that" 3 months later im broke and my maverick is still sitting with the front end 2 feet off the ground so im kind of already committed to doing it this way. but we can do a price in relation to simplicity thing when im done and we can narrow down to the easiest and cheapest route. try to save someone else the hastle hopefully
72 mavericks and 75 granadas must have shared at least spindle size the part numbers for seals, inner and out wheel bearings are the exact same and the fit like a glove i got the spacers today and theyve been the most expensive part so far 68 bucks. that just what i paid locally in Coalinga so more or less based on location and if you bring in your own material. which is just some round stock.
I did the granada swap, now I don't like the origenal friction slide style calipers and would like to convert to a floating style caliper and or dual piston (1 cylinder per side), but I would prefer to keep the granada spindles... anyone make conversion plates for the disk spindles to goto a upgraded caliper? also I would like to change the rotor/hub unit to a rotor and hub setup which is better for performance and maintenance, any ideas on what rotor that could be used with the drum hubs? thanks.
the bracket that im working on would allow you to have the 75 impalla calipers and keep the granada spindles.
I've installed a Currie kit on my Versailles differential that adapts 1994-2004 Mustang Cobra calipers with integral parking brake to fit this rear-end. I was wondering if anyone knew of a method of using the front calipers from the same cars (1994-2004 Mustang Cobra) to fit Granada spindles and rotors?
messed up one of the brackets so i have to order another one. that write up left out the most difficult part. how he determined where to drill the holes and where he cut it off at.. i will fill in the missing area when i do the drivers side caliper. no welding is required to install this if you do it right. i missed a little when i drill the hole so i had to wallow it out a bit, so i welded the spacer onto the bracket. now the spacer provides stability where it used to be just a spacer.
