I have a '72 Mav with a 250 engine. I am replacing the rusted out water neck and tried to remove the Distributor vacuum control valve. It seems to be rusted into the water neck. I went to my local O'reiley auto parts store and tried to buy a new one. They were unable to find the one on their parts list. If anyone has any idea of where to get a new one and if it is really needed to keep the engine running smoothly, thanks.

I just removed 2 250 engines and I'm not sure what you are talking about. Got any pics?:)

Here is a picture of the water neck with the distributor vacuum control valve. Thanks for the input, I will just plug the hole in the new water neck.

Not sure I had one on either of the 250's I took out. Also looked at the 250 from my Sprint and it wasn't there either.:hmmm:

I put the new water neck in with the plug. I read that some of these engines had two types of advance that they used together. I bet it was more of an emissions thing so I don't need to worry about that since mine is a '72. Thanks for the help.

If your six has a ported vacuum port on the carb (vacuum only when the throttle is opened) you can route the vacuum hose from it to the outer vacuum nipple on the distributor. This is how the single advance distributors are done. The dual advance distributors were an emissions design. The inner port is actually a timing retard function.

All Mavericks came equipped with dual advance distributors, centrifugal and vacuum. But not all came with the dual diaphragm to retard the timing.

What I meant was the dual diaphram, it's often mistaken to be a dual advance by many.
