doe's anyone know an easy way to convert my power steering to manuel,6600-6800 rpm's at the strip is a little much,i see sign's of fluid pushing up the fill tube and dripping down, not good on a dragstrip

My car had/has power steering on it, but the pump has been removed along with the hoses. Been this way since I got it. Steers just like a manual car. It was run on the strip and the previous owner didn't like the power steering.

Agree. You will need a manual centerlink and Pitman arm...and puller to remove the pitman. I would stay with the power steering gear box.

Yes you can just change the linkage, actually most guys prefer the power steering box. It has a better ratio, I think.

FYI...driving the car like that is incredibly dangerous and I would recommend switching over to a correct manual steering set-up of some kind.

without the pump applying pressure to the spool valve in the control valve assembly, you have about 3/8" freeplay which at speed can be almost 1/4 turn of the wheel, not to mention the risk of the ram binding without lubrication. All of those components are designed to have fluid under pressure in them for operation and lubrication.

 Agreed when I was around 19 yrs old it pulled the ball right out of the socket so to speak, I was lucky I was only going around 23 m.p.h. and my car had to be towed.

Thanks for the heads up, guys. I had no idea that this was a problem. That's why this is such a great forum, when someone sees a problem, they let us know in a kind and gentle way. I will look for the pitman arm and center link and get them replaced.:tiphat:

I have that adapter piece. It was cheaper for me to go with the adapter then a whole new center link piece. As long as you follow the directions it comes with I haven't had one problem in over 5 years. My power steering pump and everything that attached to it was leaking and it would have run me over $300 to replace that stuff so I opted for the $80 adapter and it worked like a charm!!!
