Bellhousing/clutch problem?????

    289/t5 swap....Using the bellhousing from a '90 5.0.....Cannot get it so bolt to the block....Seems there is an interference with the clutch fork ball stud and the pressure plate, it's too long therefore hitting the pressure plate and preventing the bellhousing to be bolted on....Anyone else ever seen this?...I've done this t5 swap a few times before and never ran into this

    The T-5 bell is designed to use a diaphram style pressure plate. If you want to use that long style pressure plate you're going to have to use a 289 bell with an adapter plate between the bell and trans,

    What about just shortening the ball stud?

    What method are you planning on using as far as clutch actuation ? It'll have to be either cable or hydraulic, that setup's not going to work with the stock mechanical linkage.

    And if you do get the stud shortened, you're also going to have to verify that the clutch fork clears the pressure plate and you have some freeplay between the throwout bearing and the pressure plate fingers.

    it looks like a big hex nut against the shoulder of the clutch stud, if so, why is it there?

    The T5 bellhousing also uses a pull style release fork (fulcrum on the passenger side) and the 289 uses a push (fulcrum on the drivers side)

    That's part of the ball stud....Threads into bellhousing...I've already milled the boss down probably 3/8"...Could go some more....Once i figure out the clearance for the fork and t/o bearing i was thinking of cutting the ball stud/ chamfering the edges and tig welding it back together

    im not 100 percent sure on this but The 94-95 cars had a differant bellhousing. I think they were a bit longer than the fox bodied cars. I know the input shaft on the 94-95 cars were a bit longer. Anyway there may be a differant stud for differant years. Maybe there is a shorter one on the newer cars or maybe even the 4cyl models
