Good morning, I've done a little research here on this site, and am I correct that no one sells a new replacement centerlink for the Maverick's w/ power steering? I've only seen the rebuild kits available. That brings up another question- there are (2) different parts listed for the same year/ model. One w/ a brass sleeve, one w/o. I'm stuck in Kuwait right now, so I can't check the car. Does anyone know which one I would need by model, or do I need to verify what's on the original part? (I can send the wife uder the car w/ a camera!!!) 73 Maverick, 250 ci, automatic, w/ p/s. Thanks for your help! Jim p.
I learned years ago when working on a Ford it is best to take the part with you when buying parts. Just because the books says it is the right part doesn't mean it is going to fit. I think it has something to do with what color the car is your working on and the date the car was manafactured.
I know this all to well! I'm trying to purchase parts for the car, which is in RI, while I'm out here in Kuwait! Trying to get the rest of the mechanical items taken care of so I can have it dropped off at the welding shop. I've been promising the wife for almost 9 years now to get the car finished.
Okay, question for you. The center link has the power steering control valve screwed onto the driver side end. The Pitman arm attaches from the steering box to the valve pivot in this steering control valve. This is the part that typically needs rebuilt or replaced. Is this what you are looking for? I don't believe anyone sells a NEW center link. However, I do know that many places sell rebuilt control valves. Check the Mustang stores as it is the same part. You can also buy a rebuild kit if you want to rebuild it yourself. Most people end up botching this procedure.
