i have a 85 302 that im trying to put in my 74 mav with c4. ive been reading about fly wheels and flex plates. what do i need to change or do i have to change anything to bolt the 302 to the c4 tranny?
flywheel...manual transmission flexplate...automatic (C-4) "157 50 oz flywheel If its a roller motor is what i was told for my 89 roller h.o" my '93 5.0 roller had a 164 28 oz. flexplate...it now has a 157 28 oz. flexplate. the balance of the motor determines the weight of the balancer/flexplate. what size bellhousing do you have? (big or small) get the size flexplate for the bellhousing and the correct weight for the balance of the motor. ...Frank...
The flex plate (flywheel for automatic) has to match the engine balance and the bellhousing for size. If you had a 302 in the car before that is the only consideration that you have to make. If you swapped from a six cylinder then you will need a V8 bell housing and the engine plate (which has to match the bell housing for size) as well as the flex plate with the correct counter weight for your engine and the right number of teeth to match the converter. Your current starter should work if you only use the two bolts that line up with the V-8 bell housing (regardless of it being for a six or eight).
it came bolted on to an aod im sure it would be easier to put it in with the aod but what do you guys recommend?
is there a special way to put the flexplate? i know theres a piece of metal weight on one side of the flexplate, but does the motor have to be dead center and the plate bolted a certain way? cause i know its for balance.
The holes in the plate are not square to each other. You can not put it on wrong. (unless it's backwards) and you stillmight ot be able to get it on. . there should be a sticker to to tell the motor side or trans side
