Not sure if this is "normal" or not. I was installing the radio the other night and my hand touched a wire under the dash that felt hot (the key was on). I thought this was odd, it's not "melting the coating off the wire" hot, but still seemed odd to me. The wire also has an "extra protection" coating on it as well (see pic). The wire is heavier gauge than most of the other wires, it's red with a green stripe. I looked at the fuses and nothing is blown, nor is anything "jumped" to bypass a fuse. I checked the wiring diagram, it looks like this wire goes to the ignition switch, passes by an area called "resistance wire (the extra coating I saw under the dash??) and hits the coil, then the starter relay (if I'm tracking it properly).

Is this "normal" for this wire to get somewhat hot when the ignition is turned on (engine was not running)?

That is the resistor wire to the coil - it is normal for it to get warm.
If you leave the key "ON" without the engine running you can blow out the DSII amplifier so don't do it for long.
