http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/engine_repair_03.html Scroll down til you see "seat belt interlock system" and heres how to get rid of it: http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/seatbelt_74.html
ah very interesting. wonder if someone may have already bypassed this already, seeing how the car starts without the seat belt latched. must investagate further. thanks for the info
I removed the yellow box on my '74. I zipped tied the wiring harness up high under the dash. I did away with the override switch under the hood also...and did away with the harness under the seat
What did you have to do to remove this junk. I think it maybe the bane of some electrical problems I'm having.
I didn't have to...I wanted to. The yellow box and seatbelt wires are not tied in with anything else with the engine or chassis electrical system once the bypass switch under the hood is bypassed.
I WANT TO REMOVE THIS THING. IT IS IN THE WAY. former owners bypassed it but it may not have been done correctly.
if you noticed in the first picture there is a toggle switch. That is used to turn on the back up lights. I believe that the backup lights are wired into the yellow box. I would like to put the car in reverse and the lights come on. If I can do that and remove the box it is a plus. Now I know that this problem with the backup lights could lie somewhere else but this is a starting point.
