on a 5.0 302 out of a 89 mustang and this is what he email me to day.
ps and last time i cheked this was my project :hmmm: what do you guys think?

    this what he told me

Now that is a great idea!

But, why stop with just a carb?

If U want an antique, lets get rid of the starter, get an old fashion hand crank, save the weight of the battery and starter ~75 pounds.

Lets think of another way to lose 25 horsepower and 4 mpg, gee I really miss the Fuel Vapor Lock Days, be glad to have them back.

Lets spend time and money trying to figure out which jets will be best, for this week, then when the weather changes, we can go thru all that again.

Spend $$$$ on a carb and intake manifold when the engine already has fuel injectors and matching intake manifold.

Go with a single exhaust, less power and mpg, but cheaper! save about 3 pounds of weight, make it look more original.

Now don't forget about those old bias ply tires. So what if they only lasted about 1/3 as long, less performance and another 3-4 mpg less, lets keep the Maverick original.

Oh, I found an old fashion tube AM only radio that came from an old Ford, no sense in installing a cd/usb player. Hey, with just an AM radio, U would only need a single speaker, and a low quality! Save another 2 pounds!

Don't forget those old sealed beam headlights. So what if the light output is a little weak and yellowish, keep it original.

And get an old fashion battery as well, the type U have to add water every so often, U be foolish to get one of the much better and modern maintenance-free types!

But most of all, keep those antique drum brakes, U don;t want to be able to stop/slow like a modern car, just hit the brakes a couple of seconds earlier then what U would otherwise, don't forget to hit the brakes at least 100 feet earlier.

I think with all the above, that carb will be about perfect.

I think your so called buddy doesn't respect you. He could have a different opinion without the sarcastic put down.

I'm no expert but I've come to a conclusion on carb vs fuel injection for ME. If I were doing a mostly stock transplant, I'd keep the FI. But, with no experience with FI, and with different heads, cam, distributor, and headers I believe carb will be be simpler and cheaper.

I have a feeling there was some sarcasm in there somewhere. My 91 5.0 engine is much more responsive than with the injection. I have found that if I set the jetting on a day with an medium temp, spring or a cool summer morning, that its good all year,

well at least with a carb. you dont have to have a computer to work on your car, less wiring, less that can go wrong, and you have a much better chance of fixing it if something goes wrong than with fuel injection.

The carb'ed 80 horsepower 170 in the Maverick is way more responsive than the fuel injected 105 horsepower 1.5 in my girlfriend's 2007 Yaris... If I drive them both with a soft foot, they both get about the same gas mileage.

Either way.. Sounds like your "buddy" doesn't realize when he's just being a dick and it isn't funny anymore.

Thank you for all the replies. The reason I posted was just to see if I was over reacting or taking it the wrong way.

Well from a guy that spends most of his day trying to diagnose nightmare cars that are the latest technology and suppose to get good mileage I say you need a new friend.
EFI has its place and it works well, thats a no brainer. You really need the ability to do the install correctly and then be able to diag and fix it down the road. Not a problem for me being a tech with lots of tools and toys on hand. Not so easy for the average car guy. Myself I love my old carb. Maverick. Its my escape and rebellion against all the so called high tech systems I TRY to fix at work. My own little time machine it is. Doesnt mean I run around on bias tires with my AM radio blasting from the dash speaker though.

    IS EFI efficient-yes
Tunable- yes if you have the ability
Is EFI simple-not when its broken

IS a carb efficient- can be
    tunable-hell yes
    is a carb simple-comparatively yes

Is your friend a DORK- YES

Seriously, you could argue this one for days. No right or wrong with carb or EFI. Its your car. do what suits your interests and abilities.

Out of curiosity what does your so called friend drive??

I think your friend needs to come and diagnose some of my problem cars. LOL.
