Has anyone tried to get a new windshield weatherstrip for thier Mavs or Comets lately? The restoration of our neighbors Grabber has been in limbo for almost a month because there are no windshield weatherstrips available. I've been dealing with Tony at RPS and he hasn't been able to get any weatherstrips for months now. It appears there seems to be a problem over at Daniel Carpenters ( who apparently is the only company who is making the weatherstrips ), but I can't get a explaination as to what is going on. Has anyone here heard of anything regarding the windshield weatherstrips or knows of anyone who might have any in stock? I hate having a whole job come to a standstill because of one weatherstrip.

Pilkington makes then, they come in a green bag. Most auto glass suppliers can order from them directly. That's how I get mine for my green car.
Carpenter makes the rest of the weather stripping.

I just went out to the garage, I have one in a different bag, it's from Precision, here's the web site: http://prp.com/
The part number is WCR D797

I talked to Auto Krafters at Carlisle. They told me they are wanting to get the front weatherstrips made at another location (they did not say why).

They also told me they are working on getting the rear quarter window weatherstrip repopped as well.

I've been waiting since March for the front window rubber. I ordered the whole kit to get the "discount" price but I am getting impatient...:rant2:

There is a seller on E-Bay with two new windshield gaskets for sale. I believe the price is $95.

    Out of Stock!

I've bought and paid for 3 windshield gaskets so far over the last 2 months. Each time after waiting several days I get an email back saying that the part is out of stock, and that I will be receiving a refund. I finally just gave up and bought one on ebay a few minutes ago. It's coming from The Maverick Connection, and they've got plenty of them. There quite a bit more expensive ($99 + $22 shipping) but WTH, as long as they have them. :bs:

I personally called Auto Krafters today and discussed this issue with them. Auto Krafters is TOTALLY sold out of these gaskets, and has been for quite awhile. A company out of Thailand called "Precision" was making these gaskets. Auto Krafters placed an order with them last October, and they are still waiting for them to arrive. The last they heard....they had been sent out. (Maybe the boat got lost?? Ha, Ha)

They are now looking for a company to make these stateside, and they have found one. Problem: They needed a FORD windshield gasket for a pattern. It has to be a brand NEW one...as a used one has probably shrunk with age. Well....it so happens that I have a brand NEW in the box FORD Maverick front weatherstrip. I boxed it up and sent it out to them today.

So....with any luck....this problem will be solved soon.

Thanks for doing that Craig. I'm sure this will end up benefitting some future restorations.

Frankly, I'm surprised that we are not hearing about a shortfall on more suppliers and parts due to the depressed economy.

Surely this is a testament to how hard many of these companies have worked to stay in business in the car enthusiast industry.

I hope all of these companies that have stuck around to supply parts for Mavericks and Comets are rewarded with even more business, when the economy gets better.

I could not have said it better myself, Roger. I know I have seen several companies, including The Paddock for example, close their doors due to the economy. We need to support any company that supports our hobby. (y)

Autokrafters received the shipment today. Jeff Phillips just got a call saying he should have his next week.
