Have you ever had "One of those days " ? I saw an overhead console on a ford areostar. Its the type of console that has the individual lights and on the bottom it has the " Trip Computer" you know where you can select average speed ,fuel milage and so on .... Well i bought one last week and i took it apart and on the bottom where the computer was i put a digital clock from a newer lincoln. Had it all painted and i was tacking up a mounting bracket ...Well to make a long story short i had the console right below because i was checking out the location and a piece of slag fell right on top of it ... Actually a few pieces of slag and now its ruined .... I didnt spend much money on it but i probably have 30 freakin hours tied up in that dammed thing .... Geeze ... Sorry just venting ....
Waite a while and you'll be laughing about it. If you don't, it will just drive you nuts. Your in good company.
happens to everyone I think it's safe to say the majority of folks like us have done something like that. Someone that knows how should start a poll on who has or has not set a project of theirs on fire at least once. heh heh.
My husband has been a bodyman for 50 years and and last month was the first time he set a car on fire. He was welding in a floor pan on a Chevelle when the insulation near the kick panel went up in flames. He was wearing a welding helmut and never saw the flames until I walked by and yelled "Fire in the hole!!. We managed to get the fire knocked down before it got up under the dash board. Even though he took the proper precautions to prevent a fire from happening, all it took was one stray spark to set the insulation ablaze. The only damage was a melted kick panel, which we will replace. It just goes to show that it can happen to anyone, even the pros.
Slag sets palettes on fire... fourth of July homemade smoke bomb in a cut-open propane container. Burned so hot the steel melted, set palette on fire, and lit every mortar set up on the edges. (I can't weld so I have other experiences with slag).
Slag lit my carpet on fire under the dash board, driver side, and melted most of my wiring under there. But it wasn't me...muffler guy.
