i sent him an email too. Thanks for the update. I'm glad he will recover. It is sad that both cars are gone. Those were some awesome cars. It will be interesting to hear what happened to the green one.

    Two cars mystery .. (Comets)

    Hello Ray:
I just now checked the forum and I'm suprised at all the posts about the Comets. Thanks for all of your encouragments. Its nice to know there are folks out there that are interested. O.K. here goes .... The Green Comet was "rolled over" on 17-92 here in Florida by yours truly ... just too much power I guess .. I hit second gear a little too quick and the car just tried to pass itself and the result was I was going backwards at a pretty good speed .. No control whatsoever .. just was along for the ride and would up backwards in a ditch upside down .. crushed everything but the drive train was totally intact .. I had a few scratches and got out o.k. Towed thecar into my shop and after inspection I realized that I just didn't want to do that much work again to transfer all the goodies. I let the car go knowing that I wouldn't come out on it but I also needed some cash for my business .. Easy decision .. Exactly eight days later I was on my way to church the way I usually go . I stopped at the stop sign ...looked both ways .. didn't see ANYTHING .. pulled out and got T-Boned. I was pinned in the car for awhile .. The FD guys cut the roof off , then used the jaws of life to get my legs out .. then I got a helicopter ride to the Hospital. Both legs are broken .. Its been two months now .. so I'm hoping to hear from the Doctors that I can begin to have a "weight bearing" capacity .. or at least a partial one .. The Casts are a pain in the hiney.Literally .. Today was the sale day for both cars and I know whoever gets them will be happy with their purchase .. Both cars were in tip top shape and with a little mechanical skill could be brought back into their original running conditions. Well thats about it Ray .. I've settled with my Insurance Company and am paying off a LOC loan and purchasing
some new equipment . I still have my Red 74 Comet with the 408 stroker and its in great shape. I might take a hiatus before I get back into the cars again.. we'll see. Anyway .. Thanks for taking the time to express an interest in my well being along with all the others out there that did the same. I enjoy this forum ... I still love the cars ... and I can appreciate any interest in them . Thanks a lot . I'll be on the forum when I get back in my office . I'm doing this from a lap top in the hospital room and its wearysome. See ya'll later. Chip :)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I've have been concerned about safety in side impact situations since mine took a hit in the passenger side. It caved the skin to the inner door and crushed the quarter ahead of the wheel; that was only 5mph. Your accident has got me thinking again...

    Best wishes

    Chip,

You have my best wishes for a complete recovery. I did a high speed backwards slide in a 67 "427" Corvette, thru a guard rail and down a 50 foot tall embankment. Just missed everything that could have or should have killed me. $13K in damage to car, that was in 1982. Insurance covered it all.

    Best regards,

    Bob

    Side impact ( Comet )

    Hi Yoda.
You're right to be concerned about a "side impact".. My feet were crushed into the clutch and brake pedals and there was no way I could move them. If I keep my other Comet I'm going to reinforce this area on the inside with some 3/8ths plate gussets and shields. I was shocked to see how easily this area was compromised in a crash. The other car was supposed to be traveling at 45 mph. This tells you a lot. Anyway ...Just food for thought .:Handshake Chip

Chip, it makes me super sad to see the pics of your cars but as everybody has said, at least your still alive. Somebody certainly has other plans for you because there was two good chances in a very short time to take you out of here. I'm glad to hear you're in the healing process. As we get older I think it takes us a little longer to heal but you'll get there. I'm sure you're not going to give the docs any problems doing what they ask. Just get well and I'm sure you'll be back out there building more fantastic cars. Glad to know you still have the red one anyway.
I had clicked on the CoParts auction to see the cars. I didn't realize it was ending today till it was too late. Hopefully someone down your way in the CAMEO club picked up the cars because the last I saw they were at $2600 and $1600. If they sold for that then someone got an awesome mindblowing deal. I can only imagine what you had in both drive trains of those cars. I wish I had been better prepared because I would have been bidding on them both. Sorry again for your losses. Like I said before, if there is anything I can do don't hesitate to contact me.
Get well...and hope to see you at Silver Springs again.
    Ray

    Thanks for the pics, Ray.:tiphat:

That green one sure was a beautiful ride!:49:

Had a friend with a 65 Mustang clip a billboard at about 40-50mph and it separated at the torque box and crushed the floorboard very similar to that. I think the fact that he was somehow thrown into the passenger side was the only reason he didn't have similar injuries as Chip.

Thank you very much for the pics. I was just about to ask if anyone still had the pics because the auctions are closed and i read the whole thread not knowing how bad the cars looked.
I'm very sorry to hear about your accident, But regardless of the fact i have never spoken to you i am very glad that you are okay and expected to recover. I hope your recovery is as quick as possible, and you are able to get into cars again and enjoy it. I'm sure getting back into a car is going to be scary after what you went through.
Accidents always worry me, Especially after i've seen what they can do to my car.
