Hello everyone, I have a scenario that needs addressed before I can move forward. I have a 351W that I am installing, the engine was internally balanced when rebuilt with a 164 tooth flywheel that has a "0" balance. I have a 157 tooth Bellhousing with a 157 "0" flywheel. Is this considered balanced set or will I have to go with a 164 tooth Bell housing.

    Thanks,
    TonyJ

Your rotating assembly was balanced with the 164 tooth flywheel, but using the 157 if zero balance, won't make a noticable difference.

As long as the flywheel is truly neutral balanced then you will be fine.

Ditto, no difference in a zero balanced flywheel/ There's no difference in an externally balanced wheel either in changing size, the size of the counterweight changes to compensate for the extra distance from the crank centerline.

Thanks everyone for the support, I thought I was heading out to find a 164 tooth endbell. I appreciate the responses. I seem to take 2 steps forward and 3 back in this swap. I can finally see the end of the tunnel.(y)

    Thanks,
    TonyJ

I have a C4 transmission with the 157 tooth bellhousing I had to get a V8 endbell when I did the swap I-200-351W. when I got the bell housing I didnot know there were different endbell's to choose from until I started pulling the motor together and noticed that the 164 tooth flywheel was larger than my endbell inside diameter. I had no intentions on buying another transmission just for the endbell, I did that once already.

No big deal on the bell housing and plate, I have a few I would part with.

Better that you buy a 157 tooth flexplate, the larger flexplate would also require that you also buy a matching 164 tooth torque converter as well. You just need a zero balance 157 tooth flexplate.
