Hi everybody. I've got a 73 4dr with the 302 V8. There is a popping noise coming from the engine bay that I cannot identify. I retuned the carb and reset the timing 6 deegrees before TDC but the popping noise is still there. It seems to get worse when I am in drive or reverse and when I let off the accelerator pedal. I checked the spark plug wires and cleaned the distributor cap and rotor, but the popping is still there. I just can't tell where it's coming from. Any ideas and ways to fix it?

There is also some hesitation when I start moving from a stop. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and there is also a miss under light acceleration. With the gas pedal slightly depressed. The car will pull then not, then pull then not. Could this be fuel related?

The popping noise may be an exhaust manifold gasket leaking.

How would I check for that? I'm having the exhaust system from the behind the manifolds back replaced in 2 weeks, but I wasn't planning on replacing the manifolds. Should they be replaced as well?

If it is the exhaust manifold gasket(s), you don't need to replace the entire manifolds, just the gaskets.
