Went to the weekly Friday cruise-in for the Murfreesboro Hot Rod Assoc and lo and behold there was a Comet. He had replaced the grill and hood with a Maverick grill and hood, but the bumper still had the Comet lines in it. He was trying to sell it for $10K. I have attached a couple pictures, but apparently didn't get one of the grill.

I do have a question of you guys. He says this is original color. It reminds me of the interior paint on our Mav. I would love to know the color, but looking at the paint charts, I can't pick it out. Too green for any grabber color, but too blue to be Med Aqua. Love the look on this car.

What year was it? 73? I can look in my dealer catalog and see what the code would be. I hate those PPG charts, "poly" is not in Ford's color description.

Actually....a 1973 Comet has the exact same bumpers as a 1973 Maverick. 1974-1977 had the same bumpers as well.

It is a 73. As for the bumpers, I was referring to the outline on the bumper where the comet grill extends out. :) Didn't realize that there was a line until I saw this one.

kxmaverick - I can't promise anything as I have out-of-town guest, but I will see if they want to go to M'boro this Friday to see if the guy is back. If so, I will take a few more pics, just tell me the shot you want.

If anyone is in the area on a Friday, they have a really nice show. A good mix of new and old. They charge $1 to enter your car (free to spectators) and the money goes to local charities. PM for details or directions.

As for the paint color - it has a green hue in it that doesn't really show in the pics. He offered to let me get the code off the door sticker and I meant to go back, but didn't.

If I had to guess from the PPG chart it is somewhere between the Blue Glow and the Med Aqua (4N).

Thanks DVCRobin. If the For Sale sign has contact info, a shot of that will be plenty. If you just want to, an interior shot would be good. I'm assuming the car is in great condition based on the other pics you posted.

I'm originally from Columbia. Went to school at MTSU. Used to run around Nashville all the time. What part of Nashville you from?

I am originally from Knoxville, but moved to Mid Tenn after college. Lived in N'ville for a couple of years. Then lived in M'boro for 7 years, but moved to Franklin (near your stomping grounds) about 8 years ago.

Got my Bachelors at UTK, but just got my Masters last year at MTSU.

Mentioned something to my BIL last night about the show, I think it is a go.

    Robin,

I live in Knoxville now (Fountain City area). If you get there and can find some contact info on the car that would be great. Don't go to far out of your way. Been talking to another guy on the forum about a nice car too. Been looking for a while and now have 2 potential cars to check out.

So I'm guessing my Grabber's original factory color of: "Bright Blue Poly" (code 3J), was a name that was coined by Ditzler/PPG, or one of the Paint Manufacturers...after Ford Marketing, and the paint companies, developed the polyurethane paint color, back in the early 70's. So Ford Marketing may have had a different name for the color?
