Anyone replace their steering column with one of these Helix columns? I'm seriously considering it in hopes of fixing multiple problems. http://www.helixsuspension.com/
That would be more work, than just fixing your problems. I don't know anyone that's bought one from Helix, I wonder where they are made?
They are made in China and seem to be junk. I have a friend that has had to repair his Helix column twice already. He seriousley regrets not spending the extra hundred for an Ididit column.
That's what I fogured, just imagine what their Mustang II front suspensions are like.... It's never a straight swap.
me: Looking for a replacement steering column for a 1973 Ford Maverick, 3 speed manual on the column, 302 engine. Ididit: sorry no direct fit available -WORM me: Do you have anything that can be modified to work? Ididit was recommended on the Maverick/Comet forums. Ididit: how much different than mustang? OK, now what do I say? I have no idea of mustang/maverick comparison except that they're Fords.
That's what has stopped me from buying one...Using a GM style key would be one of those little things that would bug me...and I can get them pretty much at wholesale....
Mine is from Ididit. I also went with the key in the dash so I would not have to use a GM key. There was definitely some modifications, but well worth it.
Well, I'd prefer to put the shifter on the floor but my wife doesn't want me to. (We can't put one of the kids between us on the seat! Oh brother.) So if I do put the shifter on the floor, what are my options? Helix makes a column for the shifter on the column but after what you guys have said, I'm a bit shy about getting one.
So you are saying that Helix makes a column with a 3-speed manual on the column? Are you sure? I can't imagine anybody making that.
All I can say, is it would be way easier for you to fix the problem with what you have now. If you can't then changing the column may be beyond your ability. It's not just a bolt in.
Go here: http://www.helixsuspension.com/products/steering-columns/?gclid=CMbO646pqqoCFYfu7Qodw3KrAg and follow their system. They have an option for column shift. Hmmm..looking at it again. I bet that is not for manual shift. It doesn't say either way. Oh well, back to square one.
