Now I bike to work, 45 ride eveyrmornign up hills As i was trying a new route the other day i see a "for sale sign" on some kind of an ealry 70's muscle car, with faded paint and minor rust,.. as far as i can tell surface rust... though what do i know? So i go for a closer inspection to see a white peice of paper wiht a list of new **** in the car, it's a 71 comet, and a phone number, 2 numbers actually. So i called one, a turned off cell phone. Called the other happning to be a houseline, g/f or wife passed the phone onto the dude who ownes it. Their was no price so i was asuuming what he would be asking, especailly with new **** would be more costly then what it's worth, checking up NADA standard i was assuming it would pay at least 1,300 Candain, 1,325 American is for a decent running car needing some minor fixing. Guyes asking $700, close to half teh American value in canadain dollars, so i think it's a deal. Rememebr, my father ****ed off, and i have very little mechanical knowladge, tho im quite willing to learn, with no school commign up i will have time and brainpower to learn. It has a workign 250 slant 6... a 6 cylinder, i dont know what the slant stands for or anythign.. but whatever. .. or the 250 numerical value, but im sure i'll learn soon enough. I'm not sure of eather to keep the 6 cylinder or go with a 302 or a 351. How much does it actually cost to get mabe a 351/240 HP V8 Engine? I'm totally willing to build the thing myself, i know sumone who rebuilds engines and **** (mostly transport and normal truck engines but wiht 7 years of engineering and experience he knows what he's doing), so i can learn with him and books (most learning from books). I'm goign to have to learn about small engines anyways this winter to fix lawn mowers, in order to step up in a management role within the landscapre company i work for. So might as well learn car engines, which i actually WANT TO LEARN. I'm also thinking of takign a mechanics class come january. But anyhow, How reasonable is it to learn how to build an engine on my own? And also importantly, how much will it cost? I've read an article in *coughchevy-rumblecough* September 2004's mag**ducks to avoid thrown debris* (I just read the mag for the article im about to mention so chill!) Anyhow i read this " Ultimate Low-Buck Build 400 hp for $1000" article, (American dollars) starting with a chevy small block 350.... Anyhow. I know that sounds amazingly cheap. But heres my rationalization onhow i can so dsomthing similar. I cant reach that HP i dont think wiht that budget because im not knowladgeable and mabe i will **** a few things up, mabe i wil find it hard to get the parts im looking for, and mabe thigns just wont turn out as easy for me, assuming **** hits the fan hre or there. Is it reasonable to **** out 300 HP with a budget of 1,750 candain...Random figure. Or how mcuh can teh hp of a 250 cj 6 cylinder be raised with the proper components and tuning? Finally I'm on a budget, because im planning on doing this to make a little bit of cash. Honestly im not expecting much at all, just to have appreciated this is somthing to me. But i do want to make some money, even if it's a few hundred bucks. Is this reasonable. Heres what new **** the car has: >New Sefroid or Sefnoid.... I couldnt read that word, printed bad,.( dont know what this is either) >New rear seal (dont know what this is either, seal for what, preform tricks?) >Renewed muffler system from speedy (a place in town) needs a new muffler though. >All new shocks >New starter. <-- whatever >New alertnator >All new brakes >All new wheel cylinders (dont know) > New battery >New fles or flex (don't know) 26,000 original miles, or kilometers im not sure. Probably miles. (I' hope to rebuild my own engine to put in it anyway) Interior is nice! I had a look myself! If you wanna know more about this car you can find values of cars. http://www2.nadaguides.com/ (in american dollars). Thanks for reading all of this monster post. ohh btw i think comets are steller! Which is why im considering this above other cars in the same price range in my area. And im sure your goign to reply if you've read this far! Thanks again Cesar. ( i did look over my spelling once)
Ohh i just copied this psot from the one i posted on mercurycougar.net, a helpful member actually sent me this link. Yah i copied and pasted and re-wrote some. I've been a member there for a good few months. Tis place is virtually the same setup!
Welcome to this **** board!! You sure posted a lot of ******* questions....to many to answer!!! As far as costs.....how ******* fast do you want to go?? The faster/more hp you want....the more it will cost. As far as buying the car....dumping a bunch of **** on it, and trying to turn around and sell it for a profit....I don't see that happening. On really fixed up cars that took a lot of **** to get it that way, the seller usually loses money just to sell it.
The answer you are looking for is NO. You will not make any money, you will LOSE money on the project. Only the big time guys make money on projects. You can buy a restored car for less money than you can build one yourself. That is a fact, unless you can turn a piece of **** into a diamond, then you are in for one **** of a big loss. Always remember this, if it was easy, everybody could do it. Dan ps didnt want to rain on your parade, buying the car and fixing it up would be a great project and educator for you. The trades you would learn in doing a car will make you more valuable in the job market. And you never know where that might take you.
Ok thanks for your help guyes. I looksed at the car again today, it seems to have fialign bondon here and there, I looksed alot closer, and thiers alot fo rust UNDER the car. I doont know if it's surface or not, i'll have a friend take a look at it.
