I have a c4 transmission in my maverick and I was wandering if its ok to manually shift it up and down while driving and if there are any tips on it? I also was wandering if manually shifting it eliminated the need for a shift kit?

    What would be the reason?

yes you can manually shift your C4 with no ill affects to the transmission. Of course you don't want to tach the engine to high while manually shifting as it will hurt your engine.

Shifting manually doesn't really eliminate the need for a shift kit. With a Shift Kit not only does the tranny normally shift at a higher RPM but they also shift much harder, more snap, less slippage. But as stated above you can install a fully manual valve body in a C4 and it will not shift at all unless you shift it manually. Some people use a fully manual reverse valve body so it is easier to shift manually. So instead of it being PRND21 it winds up being 12DNRP....

Reverse manual valve bodies pattern is PRN123 - it prevents accidental shifting into neutral going from 2-3.
