So im in the middle of removing my 302 and stock 3 speed trans from my wrecked maverick to try and rebuild the engine, how hard would rebuilding the trans be? i don't know if the trans got damaged or if it was just the linkage but it wouldn't go into any gear but first ive never rebuilt either and am looking to do it more as a learning experience then building a performance engine.

If I were you I'd ditch the 3 speed and pick up a toploader or a T-5. You could still rebuild either one if you want, and you'd probably be happier with the drive-ability.

agreed x2. 4 speed (toploader or 3 +1 O/D) or a T5 5 speed either one would be a lot better than the old 3 speed you have now. Better gas mileage, less stress on the engine, more gears to shift = more fun to drive...
