    Howdy!
So if that long metal cylinder that goes between the trans and the rear end is the drivetrain, I disconnected it. Got a new trans x-member in, finished bolting the bellhousing to the new V8. And now the "drivetrain" is alil over an inch away :hmmm:. Shrinkage?? :16suspect

    Thats called a "driveshaft"

Did you change transmissions or something?

The driveshaft has a slip yoke on it (it extends/retracts to adjust for suspension travel)
    Is it pushed in???

    Oh thanks! Driveshaft!
I disconnected so I could try to make more space between the engine and the transmission. I forgot to put my blockplate in, and had to install it with the engine and trans still in. It puzzles me...

like I said, the driveshaft extends and collapses. You have to collapse it to remove it. It may still be collapsed.

Oops didn't see the last part of your first post. Does it retract into the transmission? I was worried I'd yank it out of the trans if I pulled on it.
Didn't notice if it retracted or not when I was removing it. The trans was floating at the time.
