I just got back from the annual Mustang Memories Car Show at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn Michigan. There were over 700 cars there, mostly Mustangs of course. There were two 1971 Comet GTs (mine and Steve Wolf) and one 1977 4 door Maverick (Dale Suich) representing MCCI. Shawn Simpson was there but they brought Lisa's Mustang instead of his Maverick. They lumped all non Mustang Ford and Mercury products into one giant class. 1960-1979 Restored and Modified. Steve Wolf was a class winner with his Competition Blue 1971 Comet GT. Unfortunately Steve had to leave before he got his award. It was a long hot day. I took a Sponsor's Choice Award for my Comet. Pretty cool when two Comets take awards at the Mustang Show!! Check out the pictures on my Flickr link. Snapped a few pictures of the Comet in front Ford WHQ since I didn't get a chance during the Roundup. http://www.flickr.com/photos/48544164@N07/sets/72157627255754433/
Congrats Mick! I was suppose to attend an all Ford Show today w/ abt 700 or more cars, like the show u attended, mostly Stang's. The classess are the same as the one's u mentioned. I had taken the car out of garage heading for the show, abt 40 mi. one way. I decided to abort after it had threatened severe storm all morning. I had pre-registered but did'nt push luck w/ mother-nature. Took the car out agn this evening and wud'nt u know it started another nasty looking situation w/ the weather. Not a gud day for hanging out w/ fellow gearheads.
Congrats! Those are amazing pictures on Flickr. Mavericks and Comets seem to be gaining in popularity. Mustangs are awesome, but I think there is a yearning, with Ford enthusiasts, to have more of a choice for a muscle car, besides just the Mustang. I still think there is enough of a market for Ford to re-introduce the Maverick/Comet, in the Americas, with resemblance to its original designs. I know the Maverick was never a muscle car from the factory, but it is the most similar to the Mustang, and in my opinion, the perfect candidate for re-introducing as a Ford muscle car. I could see them having V8's, and maybe V6's. Anything less than having a strong resemblance to the original Mavericks/Comets, would be a fail, in my opinion. If there is enough of a market for GM to have 2 models, with the Corvette and Camero, and Dodge to have 2 models, with the Charger and Challenger, there should definately be enough of a market for Ford to re-introduce more muscle themed models. I'm sure the Torino, Cougar, Falcon, Fairlane, and Cyclone crowd, expects us Maverick and Comet people to get to the back of the line.
Yeah same thing was supposed to happen today. We dodged two bullets during the day and when I was taking the pictures in front of World HQ it sprinkled a bit on the car, but we never really got the rain yet.
Yes your cars looked good!! They would look good at any show. I was there without a car. My '69 Mach 1 was registered but the master cylinder went bad late Saturday. I should have taken my Maverick but didn't I just was not in a good mood. I did enjoy seeing all the cars. It was a great show! I'll try it again next year. I have been doing car shows since 1984 and this is the first time I have had a break down the day before a show.
I made the second page of the Detroit Free Press I got interviewed by the Detroit Free Press yesterday at the Mustang Show and made the second page of the paper. Pretty cool when an article about Mustangs also focuses on a Comet. Watch out world the Comets and Mavericks are coming! :bananaman Click the link below if you want to see the article.
