T.L is 100% correct. I have seen people pull the stat out and get confused because it ran hotter.

bmcdaniel, no I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've been busy just putting on a new pump. I went with a standard flow cast iron (what they had) brand new Bosch pump from the "Boys" for the time being. Incidentally the pump is exactly, I mean exactly, the same as the Flowcooler unit only in cast iron. Even has the plate riveted to the impeller.

It's funny you mention "the Boys" 'cause I'm running one of their cast iron pumps now. I added the Flow Kooler disc to mine, it didn't have it originally, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Bosch. I'll have to take a look at that.

My engine builder seemed to disagree with T.L. (even though it made sense to me!), i hope i don't butcher this:
He said that it will increase pressure between the water pump and the thermostat. This will, in turn, eliminate air pockets and therefore hotspots (the reason engines run hotter without thermostats). He also said the main benefit to aftermarket pumps is that the flow is equalized.

I also bought one of those flow kooler discs, but there isn't room between the impeller and the back cover for the disc, let alone the rivets. I wonder how many different designs there are on how many different years?

Either way, thanks for all the help guys!

All due respect, I think your engine builder is wrong. It doesn't run hotter without a stats due to hot spots, it does because the coolant goes through the radiator too fast to cool.
