I was looking at a transmission on CL i was interested in taking a look at and the guy said its a cable shift. Whats the difference in cable shift vs. linkage shift?

I don't know much about transmissions and was wondering if i were to get this if i could use an aftermarket floor shifter?

What kind of transmission is it? If it is a C4 and has a cable shift it probably is setup for an aftermarket shifter anyways since the stock used linkage.

Ford used cable shifters in many cars including Torinos, Galaxies, & Granadas of various years.
