I recently bought a 1975 Maverick that's been sitting for some years. It's ready to go except one thing. Something is wrong with the ignition lock. When I turn the ignition on there's two lamps that's supposed to turn on, right? One that says "Engine" and one that says "Alt". But the "Alt" lamp doesn't come on. If i turn the key a little more it comes on but if I let go of the key it goes out. The turning signals, wipers, fan and so on only works when the "Alt" lamp is on. I have removed the ignition lock and sprayed 5-56 in it but that didn't help. Do I have to replace the ignition lock or what should I do? My english may not be that good, I'm from Sweden.
I think the ign lock is just that, a lock, if I remember right, the actual switch is mounted down lower on the steering colum, and has a wire size rod running from the key down to it, most likley needs cleaning or lubed.
Good morning......from Maconga, U.S.A.:Handshake the...ignition switch...is located on top of the steering column under the dash. maybe try adjusting/replacing it....cleaning or lubed...is good advice also.
