I need to hear from you who have swapped your Comet GT 302 from automatic to 5 speed. What tranny is best? Cable or stock linkage? Do I have to change the tranny mount? Is there a kit out there for all of this? Recommendations? Love my Comet!!

Its pretty similar to doing a T5 swap. You will probably have to do most all of the same things just with a different tranny, the T5 is smaller then the tremec so its easier to fit in.

I have a 72 Comet that had a C4 and a 302. I wanted to have a manual and get an overdriven gear at the same time.

I chose to buy an wrecked 89 mustang and use everything I could from it. I used the Bell housing and it’s tranny and speedo cable. My drive shaft worked with no change in length and I used my c4 yoke which some say should be avoided. I modified my cross member which was basically just dropping it down to hold the T5 an inch lower for floor clearance and flipped it around so the back was facing forward so the slots lined up with the new rubber mount studs.

There could be a more simple way to go. I wanted to spend as little as possible.

The link below is really close to what I did to solve the clutch operation riddle. Used a hydraulic master and slave type with my stock clutch pedal. My dad fabbed a slave mount that bolts into the ears of the T-5. I wish the slave would travel slightly more than it does. I have to have a decent amount of load on my throwout bearing to get it to disengage fully.

MeanMaverick did sell the parts, if you wanted to use a T5 with a cable clutch.
I'm working on a T5 swap right now, it'll be with the slave cylinder.

you can get a kit from mustang steve.com the kit is part number ck165 it comes with the the cable the quadrant and fire wall adjuaster some of the guys on here are running this kit including me. You have to weld the quadrant to the top of the clutch pedal and put an indent underneath the cowl on top of the clutch pedal. The firewall adjuster is a pain to put in on the firewall on my maverick i cut a small section and welded in a piece of angel iron to it to mount the firewall adjuster to because the one that comes in the kit will hit the mastercylinder, it sort of hard to explain but if you send me a pm i can send you some pictures.
